History of Crystal Palace

The name of Crystal Palace originates from the building designed by Sir Joseph Paxton for the Great Exhibition in 1851. Before that, it was named as Sydenham Hill and was an oak forest. However, the building burned down in 1936 and the site became what is now known as Crystal Palace Park. Today Crystal Palace is a residential area with various residentail properties ranging from Victorian to modern architectural designs.

About Crystal Palace Park

Crystal Palace still holds to some of its Victorian architecture though the mixture of housing styles spread within the area. One of the landmarks is the Crystal Palace park, which is a large Victorian green area, and one of the major public parks in London.
